The Month of May: Walking on Air

No matter how elusive The Tree of Life is, most can agree that it’s one of the most beautiful films to have graced cinemas. Proving this notion is an enchanting image of Jessica Chastain elegantly defying gravity. It’s in this particular shot that we feel the vivacious, illuminating presence of Chastain’s Mrs. O’Brien, a woman who personifies God’s grace. Most importantly, she represents the wondrous love a mother can bring to her children. Through a child’s imaginative, innocent eyes, unconditional love propels a mother into the realm of deities; she is far too special for the laws of the world.

Cinematographer: Emmanuel Lubezki

Director: Terrence Malick
